"Writing, teaching, supervision, research and podcasting are not only professional practices — they are acts of empowerment"

Liisa Uusimäki (PhD) is an academic, educator, supervisor, and mentor with over 15 years of experience in higher education across Sweden and Australia. Her work bridges pedagogical leadership, inclusive education, and internationalisation, supporting learners and educators at all stages of academic development.

She is recognized by the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, for her commitment to high-quality teaching and inclusive learning practices, receiving the prestigious award of Excellent Teacher (2018). In 2019, she was appointed Associate Professor on the basis of her research contributions.

Educational philosophy

Learning is at the heart of my work as both an educator and researcher. I regard education as one of our most powerful tools for confronting ignorance, inequality, and intolerance — and for nurturing thoughtful, engaged citizenship in a complex world.

Regardless of our professional roles, we must continually learn to understand why conditions are as they are — politically, socially, culturally — and how we might contribute more consciously to the communities we inhabit.

My teaching and mentoring are grounded in the belief that intellectual growth occurs through openness, dialogue, and relational practice. We need not always agree; what matters is our willingness to listen, reflect, and engage respectfully with different perspectives. In this shared space, transformation becomes possible.
